Spartacus

The cartoon ends.

I stopped watching awhile back. Stop-motion bloodbaths failed to hold my attention. And, of course, the PC stuff. It's all driven by romantic passion for the women. Lots of sword-wielding babes taking down Roman legions. Yeah, right. They can't even pass Marine combat training.

I can handle female warriors in fantasy settings- it is called FANTASY, after all. But the more realistic the setting, the rarer female combatants should be.

Now, Brienne in Game of Thrones is acceptable to me as a female warrior. Why? Because her character actually accounts for the realities of a female soldier in a medieval setting. Big, muscular, and only allowed to fight because no guy will marry her. That said, she doesn't wipe the floor with the guys she fights. One of my favorite characters in the series, but believable. A pretty solid character, in my opinion.

The amazon is a form of the archetypal female for sure. But in the service of the feminist project, our movies are now full of female warriors who are depicted as degrading men. Part of the whole media trend --so visible in commercials-- to make men into clowns.
